ABOUT

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapists (OTs) help people with disabilities engage in meaningful activities and build independence in their daily lives. Within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), OTs assess functional capacity, provide therapy interventions, and recommend assistive technology to support participants in achieving their goals. Their focus is on improving a person’s ability to perform daily tasks at home, in the community, and at work or school.

Holistic Approach

OTs take a holistic approach by considering the physical, emotional, social, and environmental factors that impact a participant’s life, ensuring all aspects of their well-being are addressed in their NDIS plan.

Capacity Building

OTs focus on building participants’ skills, confidence, and independence, empowering them to manage daily tasks, engage in their communities, and achieve their personal goals.

Advocacy

OTs act as strong advocates for participants, ensuring their needs and rights are understood and met within the NDIS and other systems, while helping them access the right supports and services.

Personal care (e.g., showering, dressing, eating)
Household tasks (e.g., cooking, cleaning, shopping)
Mobility and transfers (e.g., getting in and out of bed, using a wheelchair)
Community access and social engagement
Work, study, and leisure activities
OTs assess a participant’s ability to complete daily tasks and identify barriers to independence.
FCA reports guide NDIS funding decisions for therapy, assistive technology, and home modifications.
OTs prescribe mobility aids (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers), daily living aids (e.g., shower chairs, kitchen modifications), and communication devices.
Justifications are provided to ensure AT is reasonable, necessary, and aligned with the participant’s needs and goals.
OTs deliver therapy to improve mobility, fine motor skills, coordination, and cognitive function.
Strategies are developed to increase independence in self-care, household management, and community participation.
OTs assess a participant’s home environment to identify accessibility barriers.
Recommendations for home modifications (e.g., ramps, handrails, bathroom modifications) are made to support safety and independence.
Our SERVICES

Increase your independence

We complete the following assessments to help guide intervention, funding and therapy supports.

Functional Capacity (FCA)

Assessment of strengths and limitations across daily living, mobility, communication, cognition, and social participation. An FCA provides evidence-based recommendations to support plan funding and guide tailored interventions.

Assistive Technology (AT)

Assessment and prescription of devices and equipment that promote independence, safety, and participation in daily life. This may include mobility aids, communication devices, or adaptive tools specific to individual needs.

Minor Home Modifications

Evaluation and recommendations for practical changes within the home to improve accessibility, safety, and independence. This can include grab rails, step wedges, ramps, and bathroom modifications.

My Aged Care

Assessments designed for older adults to assist access to funded aged care supports. They focus on safety, independence, and functional needs within the home and community.

Manual Handling

Practical training for carers and support workers in safe manual handling techniques, equipment use, and strategies to reduce injury risk. Sessions are tailored to the participant’s needs and daily routines.

Return to Work

Analysis of workplace environments and tasks to identify risks and optimise ergonomics. Recommendations aim to improve comfort, prevent injury, and enhance workplace performance.
